91_HR0201 LRB9106529CBcb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of this Body are honored to 3 recognize significant occasions in the lives of the people of 4 this State; and 5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Kennedy Junior 6 High School in Lisle, the newest of the five middle schools 7 in Naperville Community Unit School District 203, is being 8 dedicated to Eugene C. Drendel, who retired as associate 9 superintendent for 6-12 instruction in 1994; and 10 WHEREAS, A native Napervillian, he attended SS Peter and 11 Paul Catholic School and Naperville Community High School; he 12 attended Iowa State College and earned his master's degree in 13 educational administration as the college became a 14 university; and 15 WHEREAS, He met and married Sharon Fogarty of Cedar 16 Rapids, Iowa; they moved to DeKalb, where he served as a 17 middle school math and science teacher; he also coached a 18 ninth grade wrestling team that was undefeated in dual meets 19 during his three-year stewardship; and 20 WHEREAS, In 1963, Gene Drendel returned to Naperville and 21 taught seventh and eighth grade math and science at Lincoln 22 Junior High School and served as assistant wrestling coach; 23 during his second and third years, he served as both teacher 24 and assistant principal; and 25 WHEREAS, In 1966, he became principal of Naper Elementary 26 School; he left Naper to become director of administrative 27 services for the district in 1968; the following year, he 28 served as interim principal at Beebe Elementary School while 29 making arrangements for the opening of Jefferson Junior High 30 School, and in 1970 he opened the still unfinished school; 31 and -2- LRB9106529CBcb 1 WHEREAS, He served on the governing boards of the special 2 education cooperative to which the school district then 3 belonged, and of the Audio Visual Institute of DuPage County; 4 he was recognized by the Naperville Jaycees as Outstanding 5 Young Educator and as Distinguished Educator; and 6 WHEREAS, In 1985, he was elevated to Associate 7 Superintendent of Instruction for grades six through twelve; 8 and 9 WHEREAS, Gene and Sharon Drendel are the loving parents 10 of Theresa, Joseph, Douglas, Andrea, and Sean; they are the 11 proud grandparents of three granddaughters and one grandson; 12 and 13 WHEREAS, Although retired, Gene Drendel continued his 14 involvement with the education profession, teaching and 15 coordinating clinical and student teaching assignments; he 16 also represents North Central College at meetings of college 17 placement coordinators, helps coordinate an annual job fair, 18 and counsels incoming education students; and 19 WHEREAS, Gene Drendel is worthy of our highest 20 admiration, he has earned the respect of all who have come to 21 know him; therefore, be it 22 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 23 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 24 we join with the people of Naperville in paying tribute to 25 Gene Drendel and congratulate him on his success; and be it 26 further 27 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 28 presented to him as an expression of our esteem.
