1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to congratulate Illinois State
4 University basketball coach Jill Hutchison on her retirement;
5 and
6 WHEREAS, Jill Hutchison is a one-time president of the
7 Women's Basketball Coaches Association; in 1996 she was voted
8 the Rawlings-MVC Coach of the Year, and was elected Kodak
9 District Coach of the Year, which made her a finalist for
10 National Coach of the Year; and
11 WHEREAS, Jill Hutchison and her teams have won four
12 conference championships and earned nine post-season
13 tournament bids; while coaching at Illinois State she has had
14 453 career coaching victories; and
15 WHEREAS, Jill Hutchison is acknowledged as the winningest
16 coach in the Missouri Valley Conference; among active
17 Division I coaches, she ranks No. 19 in career coaching
18 victories; and
19 WHEREAS, She has received the Carol Eckman Award for
20 service to the WBCA; she also received the E. Burton Mercier
21 Alumni Service Award for leadership at Illinois State; and
22 WHEREAS, In every semester for the past decade her team
23 has kept its grade point average above 3.0; star players from
24 the team have excelled academically, as well as going on to
25 play in the Olympics and the ABL; and
26 WHEREAS, Jill Hutchison is the author of Coaching Women's
27 Basketball Successfully; and
28 WHEREAS, Jill Hutchison is a graduate of the University
29 of New Mexico; she earned her Master's Degree from Illinois
30 State, and her doctorate from the University of North

1 Carolina-Greensboro; and
2 WHEREAS, On her arrival at Illinois State University in
3 1968 she worked as a graduate assistant under Laurie Mabry
4 and Phebe Scott, women's sports pioneers; therefore, be it
5 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
7 we congratulate Jill Hutchison on her retirement as Women's
8 Basketball Coach from Illinois State University; and be it
9 further
10 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11 presented to Jill Hutchison, along with our sincere regards.
