91_HR0184 LRB9106482CBcb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Allen J. Lynch of Gurnee received the 3 Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions when he was a 4 Sergeant with the United States Army near My An, Binh Dinh 5 Province, Republic of Vietnam, on December 15, 1967; and 6 WHEREAS, Sergeant Lynch received the medal for 7 conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk 8 of his life and beyond the call of duty; and 9 WHEREAS, Sergeant Lynch (then Sp4c.) distinguished 10 himself while serving in the forward element of an operation 11 near the village of My An; his unit became heavily engaged 12 with a numerically superior enemy force; Sgt. Lynch provided 13 his commander with information which proved essential to the 14 unit's successful actions; and 15 WHEREAS, Observing 3 wounded comrades lying exposed to 16 enemy fire, Sgt. Lynch dashed across 50 meters of open ground 17 through heavy enemy fire to administer aid; he returned to 18 the area 3 times to carry the wounded men to safety; and 19 WHEREAS, When his company was forced to withdraw by the 20 superior firepower of the enemy, Sgt. Lynch remained to aid 21 his comrades; alone, he defended his isolated position for 2 22 hours against the advancing enemy; using only his rifle and a 23 grenade, he stopped the enemy just short of his trench, 24 killing 5; he crossed the area 5 times to carry his wounded 25 comrades to a more secure area; and 26 WHEREAS, Sergeant Lynch's extraordinary heroism, at the 27 risk of his life are in keeping with the highest traditions 28 of the military service; and 29 WHEREAS, The State of Illinois is proud of people like 30 Allen J. Lynch, who risked his life in the service of his 31 country; therefore, be it -2- LRB9106482CBcb 1 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 2 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 3 we congratulate Allen J. Lynch in receiving the Congressional 4 Medal of Honor; that we commend him for his valor and 5 courage; and that we wish him all the best of luck in the 6 future; and be it further 7 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 8 presented to Allen J. Lynch as an expression of our esteem.
