1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Francis Cardinal George will speak on
3 Christian-Jewish relations at Sabbath services at the Temple
4 Sholom of Chicago on Friday, April 9, 1999; and
5 WHEREAS, This occasion marks the first address the
6 Cardinal has made to a synagogue audience since being
7 appointed to lead the Chicago archdiocese's Catholics; the
8 Cardinal will talk on "The Twenty-first Century: A time to
9 deepen the Spiritual Bond between Jews and Catholics"; and
10 WHEREAS, A native of Chicago, Cardinal George grew up in
11 the Portage Park neighborhood, where he attended St. Pascal's
12 Grade School; he is the sixth cardinal of Chicago, having
13 been installed on April 8, 1997; therefore, be it
14 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
15 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
16 we congratulate Francis Cardinal George on speaking at Temple
17 Sholom of Chicago and wish him good luck in the future; and
18 be it further
19 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20 presented to Francis Cardinal George as an expression of our
21 esteem.
