1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The month of April is set aside to commemorate
3 the Blue Ribbon Campaign and Child Abuse Prevention Month;
4 and
5 WHEREAS, The Blue Ribbon Campaign occurs nationwide,
6 having begun in 1989 with a grandmother in Norfolk, Virginia,
7 tying a blue ribbon on her van's antenna after her grandson
8 died of abuse; she chose a blue ribbon to symbolize the
9 hidden bruises and scars that abused children carry; and
10 WHEREAS, Wearing a blue ribbon shows support for children
11 and their families; we urge all to wear a blue ribbon during
12 the month of April; thereafter, be it
13 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15 we urge all people to wear a blue ribbon during the month of
16 April and we proclaim the month of April as Child Abuse
17 Prevention Month in the State of Illinois; and be it further
18 RESOLVED, A suitable copy of this resolution be presented
19 to the Mini O'Beirne Crisis Nursery.
