91_HJ0075 LRB9114522DHmb 1 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark established a 3 camp in the Wood River area in Illinois in 1803 to train the 4 men of the Corps of Discovery for their trip up the Missouri 5 River; and 6 WHEREAS, The camp was situated on the banks of the Wood 7 River and called Camp de Bois, or Camp of the Woods; and 8 WHEREAS, The Lewis and Clark expedition commenced from 9 that site in May 1804; therefore be it 10 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 11 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE 12 SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that the new 4-lane highway 13 currently under construction between the intersection of 14 Interstate Routes 270 and 255 and the Alton Bypass be named 15 the Lewis and Clark Highway; and be it further 16 RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation 17 is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with 18 State and federal regulations, an appropriate plaque or signs 19 giving notice of the name; and be it further 20 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 21 delivered to the Secretary of Transportation.
