91_HB4596 LRB9111793JMmb 1 AN ACT to amend the Election Code by changing Section 2 5-1. 3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 4 represented in the General Assembly: 5 Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing 6 Section 5-1 as follows: 7 (10 ILCS 5/5-1) (from Ch. 46, par. 5-1) 8 Sec. 5-1. Registration required; application of Article. 9 Except as hereinafter provided, it shall be unlawful for any 10 person residing in a county containing a population of 11 500,000 or more, to vote at any election, unless such person 12 is at the time of such election a registered voter under the 13 requirements of this Article 5 or is exempt under Section 14 5-29.01 from registration. Provided, that this Article 5 15 shall not apply to electors residing in cities, villages, and 16 incorporated towns in this State which have adopted or are 17 operating under Article 6, 14 and 18 of this Act, or to 18 electors voting pursuant to Article 20 of this Act. 19 (Source: P.A. 80-1469.)
