1 AN ACT to amend the Higher Education Student Assistance
2 Act by adding Section 35.5.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Higher Education Student Assistance Act
6 is amended by adding Section 35.5 as follows:
7 (110 ILCS 947/35.5 new)
8 Sec. 35.5. Computer assistance grant program.
9 (a) The Commission shall award grants to students under
10 a program to increase the availability of computers to
11 financially needy students through State assistance. A
12 student is eligible for a grant under this program if the
13 student is a recipient of a grant under Section 35 of this
14 Act. The Commission shall request annual appropriations for
15 this program. Grants under this program are contingent on
16 the availability of funds. The Commission may adopt any rules
17 necessary to implement and administer this program.
18 (b) This Section is repealed on July 1, 2002.
19 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect on
20 July 1, 2000.
