1 AN ACT to amend the Illinois Controlled Substances Act by
2 adding Section 309.1.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Illinois Controlled Substances Act is
6 amended by adding Section 309.1 as follows:
7 (720 ILCS 570/309.1 new)
8 Sec. 309.1. Prohibited used of controlled substance
9 registration numbers.
10 (a) A person may not request a physician's State license
11 number or federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)
12 number except for the purposes of credentialing or filling a
13 prescription for a controlled substance.
14 (b) A prescription does not have to include a State
15 license number or federally issued registration number
16 authorizing the prescriber to prescribe controlled substances
17 or scheduled drugs (DEA number) if the drug prescribed is one
18 for which the registration number is not otherwise required
19 by law.
20 (c) A person, firm, corporation, or other legal entity
21 may not impose any requirement inconsistent with the
22 provisions of this Section.
23 (d) Any violation of this Section is punishable in
24 accordance with the provisions of subsection (a) of Section
25 406 of this Act.
