1 AN ACT to amend the Rights of Crime Victims and Witnesses
2 Act by adding Section 8.5.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Rights of Crime Victims and Witnesses Act
6 is amended by adding Section 8.5 as follows:
7 (725 ILCS 120/8.5 new)
8 Sec. 8.5. Crime victim notification.
9 (a) The Attorney General shall establish a crime victim
10 notification system that provides the information contained
11 in the notices required under Section 4.5 to crime victims
12 and witnesses, upon their request, by automated telephone
13 calls. The Attorney General may contract with public or
14 private agencies to implement the notification system. The
15 Attorney General shall implement an automatic data exchange
16 system to access and download information from the computer
17 databases of the Department of Corrections, the Prisoner
18 Review Board, law enforcement agencies, the circuit clerks,
19 and the State's Attorneys that is necessary to provide the
20 notices required in Section 4.5. The Attorney General shall
21 establish and maintain a centralized computer database of the
22 information needed to provide the notices required in Section
23 4.5. The information in the database shall be uploaded to
24 the automated telephone system for transmission to the crime
25 victim and witness. The Attorney General shall establish a
26 24-hour hotline accessible to the public that contains the
27 status of criminal cases pending in the circuit courts of
28 this State.
29 (b) The Attorney General shall adopt rules to implement
30 this Section.
