1 AN ACT to amend the Silent Reflection Act by changing
2 Section 1.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Silent Reflection Act is amended by
6 changing Section 1 as follows:
7 (105 ILCS 20/1) (from Ch. 122, par. 771)
8 Sec. 1. In each public school classroom the teacher in
9 charge shall may observe a brief period of silence with the
10 participation of all the pupils therein assembled at the
11 opening of every school day. This period shall not be
12 conducted as a religious exercise but shall be an opportunity
13 for silent prayer or for silent reflection on the anticipated
14 activities of the day.

16 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
17 becoming law.
