1 AN ACT to create the Real Estate Agent Voter Registration
2 Act.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 1. This Act may be cited as the Real Estate
6 Agent Voter Registration Act.
7 Section 5. Application. This Act applies to all real
8 estate brokers in counties with a population of 3,000,000 or
9 more who are licensed under the Real Estate License Act of
10 1983.
11 Section 10. Duty to inform client of right to register
12 to vote. A real estate broker who performs real estate
13 closings must (i) at the time of the closing, inform the
14 client of the client's right to register to vote under the
15 Election Code and (ii) provide the client with a Federal
16 Voter Registration Card or registration record card.
17 Section 10. Deputy registrar. Any real estate broker to
18 whom this Act applies may request, in writing, that the
19 election authority appoint that person as a deputy registrar.
20 Section 15. Violations.
21 (a) A person who violates this Act is guilty of a petty
22 offense and shall be fined $50 for a first offense; $100
23 dollars for a second offense in a 12-month period; and $250
24 for a third or subsequent offense in a 12-month period.
25 (b) The Office of Banks and Real Estate must suspend the
26 license of any person who violates this Act 3 or more times
27 during any 12-month period. The suspension must be for a
28 period of one year.
