91_HB1302 LRB9104904PTks 1 AN ACT to amend the Property Tax Code by changing 2 Sections 7-5 and 7-10. 3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 4 represented in the General Assembly: 5 Section 5. The Property Tax Code is amended by changing 6 Sections 7-5 and 7-10 as follows: 7 (35 ILCS 200/7-5) 8 Sec. 7-5. Creation of Property Tax Appeal Board. The 9 Property Tax Appeal Board shall consist of 7 members510membersappointed by the Governor, with the advice and 11 consent of the Senate. The Governor, with the advice and 12 consent of the Senate, shall designate one of the members as 13 Chairman. The property Tax Appeal Board shall be totally 14 independent of the Department. A vacancy on the Board shall 15 be filled in the same manner as original appointments are 16 made. 17 (Source: P.A. 87-1189; 88-455.) 18 (35 ILCS 200/7-10) 19 Sec. 7-10. Selection of members. The members of the 20 Property Tax Appeal Board shall be qualified by virtue of 5 21 years experience and training in the field of public finance 22 administration, at least 2 years of which shall be in the 23 field of property appraisal and property tax administration. 24 No more than 4 members3 membersof the Board may be members 25 of the same political party. At least 2 members of the Board 26 must be residents of Cook County. The Chairman of the 27 Property Tax Appeal Board shall receive $28,000 per year, or 28 an amount set by the Compensation Review Board, whichever is 29 greater; and each other member of the Board shall receive 30 $22,500 per year, or an amount set by the Compensation Review -2- LRB9104904PTks 1 Board, whichever is greater. 2 Of the original 5 members of the Board the terms of 2 3 members shall expire on the third Monday in January, 1995; 4 the term of 2 members shall expire on the third Monday in 5 January, 1997; and the term of one member shall expire on the 6 third Monday in January, 1999. Of the 2 members of the Board 7 added by this amendatory Act of the 91st General Assembly, 8 the term of one member shall expire on the third Monday in 9 January, 2003 and the term of one member shall expire on the 10 third Monday in January, 2005. Members shall be appointed in 11 each odd-numbered year for a 6 year term commencing on the 12 third Monday in January of such year.
