90_SR0216 LRB9012168KBkb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Respect for life is the core of modern 3 civilization, and is the foundation upon which an orderly 4 society is built; and 5 WHEREAS, The Respect for Life Program originated as a 6 national week of prayer and study focusing on the sanctity of 7 all human life and recognizing that each human being, after 8 being called into existence, has a right to life, liberty and 9 the pursuit of happiness; and 10 WHEREAS, It has been a long-standing policy of the State 11 of Illinois, before the United States Supreme Court decision 12 of January 22, 1973, to protect the life of the unborn; and 13 WHEREAS, The Illinois State Right to Life Organizations 14 and the Knights of Columbus, as well as members of the 15 Catholic, Protestant and Jewish faiths, recognize the 16 sanctity of life; and 17 WHEREAS, It is desired that the week of October 4 through 18 11, 1998, be designated as "Respect Life Week" for the 19 purpose of assuring a collective appreciation and 20 mobilization of the efforts of social forces in support of 21 human life and dignity; therefore, be it 22 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY 23 OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, That we request the Governor of the 24 State of Illinois to proclaim the week of October 4 through 25 11, 1998, as "Respect Life Week" in Illinois, and that we 26 call upon all people during this period to prayerfully 27 consider the sanctity of all human life whose procreation we 28 are entrusted with by Divine Providence and to consider what 29 our responsibility is to the unborn children; and be it 30 further 31 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be -2- LRB9012168KBkb 1 presented to Jim Edgar, Governor of the State of Illinois.
