IX, Sec. 6 Proposes to amend the Revenue Article of the Illinois Constitution to direct the General Assembly to exempt property owned by veterans organizations from property taxes. LRB9001183KDks LRB9001183KDks 1 SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 2 CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT 3 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINTIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY 4 OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES 5 CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to the 6 electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the 7 general election next occurring at least 6 months after the 8 adoption of this resolution a proposition to amend Section 6 9 of Article IX of the Illinois Constitution as follows: 10 ARTICLE IX 11 REVENUE 12 (ILCON Art. IX, Sec. 6) 13 SECTION 6. EXEMPTIONS FROM PROPERTY TAXATION 14 The General Assembly by law may exempt from taxation only 15 the property of the State, units of local government and 16 school districts and property used exclusively for 17 agricultural and horticultural societies, and for school, 18 religious, cemetery and charitable purposes. The General 19 Assembly by law shall exempt from taxation property of 20 organizations of veterans of the United States Armed Forces. 21 The General Assembly by law may grant homestead exemptions or 22 rent credits. 23 (Source: Illinois Constitution.) 24 SCHEDULE 25 This amendment takes effect upon approval by the electors 26 of the State.
