1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The Illinois House of Representatives welcomes
3 many different and diverse people to the State each year; and
4 WHEREAS, The family of The Rainbow Push Coalition's Alice
5 Tregray will soon hold their reunion in Chicago, Illinois;
6 and
7 WHEREAS, The Fuller-Jackson-Clinkscales-Cobb family will
8 be holding their family reunion on August 1, 1997; and
9 WHEREAS, This is a family of rich history; their story is
10 one of a family that has faced great challenges, weathered
11 many changes, and come through them all; and
12 WHEREAS, This is a family that came through years of
13 slavery; their origin begins in Abbeville County, South
14 Carolina, known as "The Cradle and the Grave of the
15 Confederacy"; after the civil war, the family began to work
16 the land around Abbeville; Anthony Crawford, one of the
17 successful members of the family, was lynched for becoming a
18 success; people in the area threatened the family, as well as
19 other black members of the community; as a result many people
20 left the area, and thus the family saw itself spread across
21 the United States; and
22 WHEREAS, A large part of the
23 Fuller-Jackson-Clinkscales-Cobb family moved to the area of
24 Chicago and Evanston, Illinois; Chicago and the family have a
25 lot in common: both have faced diversity, and both have risen
26 from tragedy to become better; therefore, be it
27 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
28 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
29 honor the members of the Fuller-Jackson-Clinkscales-Cobb
30 family, and wish them a great reunion; and be it further

1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to the Fuller-Jackson-Clinkscales-Cobb family.
