1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Test Positive Aware Network was founded in 1987
3 when 16 individuals met to share information and concerns
4 regarding HIV and AIDS; this small group, most of whom were
5 HIV positive but asymptomatic, were ineligible for existing
6 services due to their non-AIDS diagnosis; and
7 WHEREAS, The group met to exchange vital information in
8 an effort to stay well-informed and healthy and in a short
9 period of time the small band of individuals grew into a
10 network of several thousand members dedicated to providing
11 education and primary and secondary prevention services as
12 well as direct services; and
13 WHEREAS, TPA Network has, over the past 10 years,
14 provided peer support and informational programs and services
15 to in excess of 150,000 people affected by HIV and AIDS per
16 year; and
17 WHEREAS, The agency provides services in a myriad of
18 ways, ranging from publications such as Positively Aware, The
19 Chicago Area HIV/AIDS Ryan White Services Directory, and tpan
20 now; and
21 WHEREAS, The agency provides direct services in ways such
22 as the positive buddy program, the peer support network, and
23 over 20 peer-led support and informational groups per week;
24 and
25 WHEREAS, TPA Network continues to be dedicated to
26 providing peer-led direct services and peer-led prevention
27 activities, and vital current treatment advocacy and
28 information; and
29 WHEREAS, TPA Network is dedicated and committed to
30 changing direction and focus as the epidemic progresses in an
31 effort to ensure that all people affected by HIV and AIDS are

1 served in a safe, effective, and empowered manner; and
2 WHEREAS, The TPA Network celebrates its 10th anniversary
3 on June 27, 1997; therefore, be it
4 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
6 congratulate the Test Positive Aware Network on the occasion
7 of its 10th anniversary and extend our sincere thanks for 10
8 years of dedicated service with the hope that it will
9 continue its mission of providing fellowship and support to
10 the HIV affected community; and be it further
11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to Test Positive Aware Network.
