1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, On July 19, 1997, at the new Crown Plaza in
3 Springfield, Illinois, Martin Conatser will be appointed
4 Department Commander of the American Legion; and
5 WHEREAS, Martin Conatser was raised in Central Illinois
6 and attended DeLand Weldon High School, where he graduated
7 from in 1970; In December of 1970 Martin entered the Illinois
8 Army National Guard as an Infantry soldier; and
9 WHEREAS, In April of 1976, Martin Conatser returned to
10 active duty, where he served as a recruiter and liaison to
11 the United States Army Recruiting Command; Martin had a
12 twenty-six year military career as Operations Sergeant Major
13 for the Illinois Army National Guard Recruiting Command; and
14 WHEREAS, Martin Conatser is a Life member of Lincoln
15 American Legion Post 102 in DeLand, Illinois, where he has
16 served as Commander, Adjutant, and in many chairmanships;
17 Martin has also served as Commander of the Piatt County
18 Council; in his nineteen dedicated years of service to the
19 American Legion, Martin has served the 19th District and 4th
20 Division as Commander, as well as other offices and as a
21 chairman; Martin serves the National Organization on the
22 Membership and Post Activities Committee; Martin is currently
23 serving as Senior Vice Commander for the Department of
24 Illinois; and
25 WHEREAS, Martin is supported by his loving wife Sharon;
26 Sharon is an active Auxiliary member beginning at the Unit
27 and into Department; Martin and Sharon are the proud parents
28 of three sons; all three sons are members of the Sons of the
29 American Legion; their oldest son, Richard, is married to
30 Patsy, and they have one daughter, Kayla; Rick is a Senior in
31 High School and currently serves as the 4th Division
32 Commander of the Sons of the American Legion; Rick is also a

1 Legionnaire, where he has earned his eligibility by joining
2 the Illinois Army National Guard and serving on active duty
3 during the Summer of 1996; Bryan is a Freshmen in High
4 School, and is the Commander of Squadron 24, and Chaplain for
5 the 4th Division Sons of the American Legion; therefore, be
6 it
7 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
9 commend Martin Conatser in being selected as the Department
10 Commander for the American Legion; and be it further
11 RESOLVED, That we commend the family of Martin Conatser
12 for their support and encouragement; and be it further
13 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to Department Commander Martin Conatser and his
15 family.
