90_HR0135 LRB9005628CBcb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of this body are pleased and honored 3 to recognize a group of individuals who have contributed 4 greatly to the education of the children of the Hispanic 5 community attending Chicago public schools; and 6 WHEREAS, In 1968, in an effort to provide for the 7 language and cultural needs of the ever increasing Hispanic 8 student population of Chicago, a teacher exchange program was 9 initiated; and 10 WHEREAS, Over the years, many of those teachers have 11 remained in teaching posts in Chicago, serving as teachers 12 and positive role models to the young people of the Hispanic 13 community; and 14 WHEREAS, These noble teachers, through Transitional 15 Bilingual Education programs, have enabled students to 16 achieve their goals and fulfill their dreams; and 17 WHEREAS, Today, bilingual graduates are members of the 18 professional workforce and many have followed in the 19 footsteps of those pioneers and are honored members of the 20 teaching profession; and 21 WHEREAS, The State of Illinois applauds the outstanding 22 contributions of the Puerto Rican pioneer teachers; 23 therefore, be it 24 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 25 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 26 take great pleasure in honoring the Puerto Rican teachers who 27 have devoted twenty-five years to the education and 28 well-being of the young people of Chicago and extend to them 29 our sincere thanks and appreciation for a job well done; and 30 be it further -2- LRB9005628CBcb 1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 2 presented to the Chicago Public Schools on behalf of the 3 Puerto Rican teachers.
