90_HR0106 LRB9005546KBkb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of 4 Lauretta M. Weston of Chicago, Illinois on March 30, 1997; 5 and 6 WHEREAS, Lauretta M. Weston was born in Chicago, Illinois 7 and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota; upon returning to the 8 Chicago area, she attended and graduated from St. Elizabeth's 9 Elementary School, and graduated with honors from Wendell 10 Phillips High School; and 11 WHEREAS, Lauretta married John S. Weston; Lauretta and 12 John were husband and wife for over fifty years; the marriage 13 was blessed with two children, Marquita and Garrett; and 14 WHEREAS, Lauretta held the position of secretary to State 15 Senator William Wimbush; she went on to work for the Chicago 16 Regional Postal Service, where she held a position for 17 several years; in 1974 she retired her position as Personnel 18 Transaction Specialist; and 19 WHEREAS, After her retirement, Lauretta became an active 20 member of the West Chatham Improvement Association; she was 21 president of the Association from 1988 until her death; 22 Lauretta received the honor of being named "A Woman of 23 Distinction and Character" when she was named Citizen of the 24 Year in 1995; and 25 WHEREAS, Lauretta is credited with increasing awareness 26 among the citizens of the community; she made residents aware 27 of issues of importance that affected their lives; Lauretta 28 helped to organize voter registration and voter education 29 projects in the West Chatham area; and 30 WHEREAS, Lauretta was a member of St. Dorothy's Church, 31 Secretary to the Westcott Local School Council, and Delegate -2- LRB9005546KBkb 1 to the Illinois Regional White House Conference on Libraries; 2 and 3 WHEREAS, Lauretta is remembered as being a strong, 4 motivated, intelligent, caring, and beautiful woman who cared 5 about her family and her community; and 6 WHEREAS, Lauretta is survived by her loving husband John; 7 daughter Marquita; son Garrett; daughter-in-law Janice; her 8 two grandchildren Jacqueline Marie and Edward Patrick; and 9 many other beloved family members; therefore, be it 10 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 11 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we 12 mourn, along with her family, friends, and community, the 13 death of Lauretta Weston; and be it further 14 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 15 presented to the family of Lauretta M. Weston of Chicago, 16 Illinois.
