1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of this Body are pleased to
3 recognize individuals who have excelled in the field of
4 athletics; and
5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Nick Schwartz
6 was recently inducted into the Centralia Sports Hall of Fame;
7 and
8 WHEREAS, As a member of the Centralia High School track
9 team, Nick Schwartz won many honors and set several records,
10 which included sectional championships and the Class AA State
11 championship; he also set South Seven Conference records in
12 the 1,600 and 3,200 meters; and
13 WHEREAS, He received All-State honors his junior and
14 senior years and received the Lew Hartzog Award as the top
15 track performer in Southern Illinois and was named
16 Outstanding Male Athlete at Centralia High School during his
17 senior year; and
18 WHEREAS, After graduating from CHS, Nick Schwartz
19 continued his track career at Southern Illinois University;
20 he was a member of the Missouri Valley Conference champion
21 teams in the 1,000, 1,600, and 3,200 meter relays and was
22 named Athlete of the Meet at the MVC championships when he
23 set a record of 2:26.66 in the 1,000 meters; and
24 WHEREAS, As a teacher and coach in Alton, Nick Schwartz
25 continues to share his talents; therefore, be it
26 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
27 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
28 congratulate Nick Schwartz on being inducted into the
29 Centralia Sports Hall of Fame and commend him on his
30 outstanding achievements and contributions in the field of
31 track; and be it further
