LRB9001872THpk LRB9001872THpk 1 AN ACT to amend the School Code by changing Section 2 10-22.23 and adding Section 34-18.1a. 3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 4 represented in the General Assembly: 5 Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing 6 Section 10-22.23 and adding Section 34-18.8a as follows: 7 (105 ILCS 5/10-22.23) (from Ch. 122, par. 10-22.23) 8 Sec. 10-22.23. School Nurse. To employ a registered 9 professional nurse and define the duties of the school nurse 10 within the guidelines of rules and regulations promulgated by 11 the State Board of Education. Any nurse first employed on or 12 after July 1, 1976 must be certificated under Section 21-25 13 of this Act. 14 Notwithstanding the foregoing provisions of this Section 15 or any other law of this State, beginning with the 1998-99 16 school year, for each school within the district that has an 17 average daily attendance of 50 or more students, a 18 certificated, registered, professional nurse shall be 19 employed by the district and shall be assigned to duty as a 20 school nurse at that school at all times during the school 21 day. 22 (Source: P.A. 81-1508.) 23 (105 ILCS 5/34-18.8a new) 24 Sec. 34-18.8a. School nurse. Notwithstanding any other 25 law of this State, beginning with the 1998-99 school year, 26 for each attendance center within the district that has an 27 average daily attendance of 50 or more students, a 28 registered, professional nurse shall be employed by the 29 district and shall be assigned to duty as a school nurse at 30 that attendance center at all times during the school day. -2- LRB9001872THpk 1 If the district first employs a nurse to serve as a school 2 nurse on or after the effective date of this amendatory Act 3 of 1997, that nurse also must be certificated under Section 4 21-25.
