LRB9001305NTsb LRB9001305NTsb 1 AN ACT to amend the Illinois Vehicle Code by adding 2 Section 3-639. 3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 4 represented in the General Assembly: 5 Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by 6 adding Section 3-639 as follows: 7 (625 ILCS 5/3-639 new) 8 Sec. 3-639. Deceased police officer or firefighter 9 plates. The Secretary, upon receipt of an application, made 10 in the form prescribed by the Secretary of State, may issue 11 special registration plates to the surviving spouse or, if no 12 spouse exists, the parents of a police officer or firefighter 13 who has died in the line of duty in this State. The special 14 plates issued pursuant to this Section shall be affixed only 15 to passenger vehicles of the first division or motor vehicles 16 of the second division weighing not more than 8,000 pounds, 17 subject to the staggered registration system. 18 The design and color of the plates shall be wholly within 19 the discretion of the Secretary of State. 20 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon 21 becoming law.
