2 | | WHEREAS, It is important to recognize those who contributed
|
3 | | to the betterment of the State of Illinois through public
|
4 | | service; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Suzanne Deuchler is a 60-year member of the Aurora |
6 | | branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) |
7 | | and credits the organization with helping her accomplish many |
8 | | things in her life; she held 2 portfolios while with the AAUW: |
9 | | (1) Global Interdependence and International Relations;
and |
10 | | (2) State Board of AAUW for Global Interdependence; and |
11 | | WHEREAS, Suzanne Deuchler was a member of the Kane County |
12 | | Board from 1976 to 1980; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Suzanne Deuchler was elected to the Illinois |
14 | | General Assembly in 1980 and served for 18 years; during that |
15 | | time, she co-founded the Illinois Mathematics and Science |
16 | | Academy; promoted the Orchard Road/Toll Road Interchange; |
17 | | organized the Northeast Flood Project; supported water wells in |
18 | | surrounding towns; participated in the White House Conference |
19 | | on Small Businesses; co-chaired the General Assembly's |
20 | | Conference of Women Legislators; championed the ratification |
21 | | of the Equal Rights Amendment; received the Golden Apple Award |
22 | | from the Illinois Education Association; supported a |

1 | | business-friendly environment in Illinois; backed |
2 | | environmental legislation that promoted clean air and clean |
3 | | water; and spearheaded Kane County's establishment of the |
4 | | Nelson Lake Nature Preserve; and

5 | | WHEREAS, Suzanne Deuchler served on the boards of the |
6 | | following organizations: the National Alliance for the |
7 | | Mentally Ill, the Aurora Coordinating Council of Community |
8 | | Organizations, the Aurora Historical Society, the Kane-Kendall |
9 | | Mental Health Association, the Sci-Tech Museum, and the |
10 | | Rush-Copley Medical Center; she also served as President of the |
11 | | League of Women Voters; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Suzanne Deuchler graduated with honors in 1951 |
13 | | from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Arts in |
14 | | Liberal Arts with a major in
Spanish and a minor in speech; she |
15 | | received an honorary doctorate from Aurora University on June |
16 | | 6, 1999; therefore, be it

17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
18 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE |
19 | | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the Orchard Road |
20 | | interchange on Interstate 88 as the "Suzanne Deuchler Honorary |
21 | | Interchange"; and be it further |
22 | | RESOLVED, That the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority is |

1 | | requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
State |
2 | | and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
giving |
3 | | notice of the name "Suzanne Deuchler Honorary Interchange"; and |

5 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be |
6 | | presented to the Chairman of the Illinois State Toll Highway |
7 | | Authority and Suzanne Deuchler.
