| 1 | HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, It is appropriate for us to remember the many | ||||||
| 3 | sacrifices and contributions to the cause of freedom made by | ||||||
| 4 | the outstanding men and women who served in the Vietnam War; | ||||||
| 5 | and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, United States Marine Corps Lance Corporal Larry D. | ||||||
| 7 | Claybrook was born on April 21, 1944 in Hillsboro; he was the | ||||||
| 8 | son of the late Frank and Sarah Lucille (Hayes) Claybrook, the | ||||||
| 9 | brother of Shiela Marie, Rita Evaughn, Paulette Janice, Teresa | ||||||
| 10 | Joyce, Michael Allen, Bille May Wideman, Mary Alice (Norman | ||||||
| 11 | Lee), Frank Joseph Claybrook, Beatrice McQuary, Terry Lee, and | ||||||
| 12 | Patricia Ann; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Larry D. Claybrook was a member of | ||||||
| 14 | the St. James Baptist Church in Hillsboro; he was a lifelong | ||||||
| 15 | resident of Hillsboro and attended Hillsboro High School; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Larry D. Claybrook was a member of | ||||||
| 17 | the United States Marine Corps for a year, serving in the 1st | ||||||
| 18 | Battalion, 4th Marines in Vietnam; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Larry D. Claybrook gave his life | ||||||
| 20 | defending America's freedom on January 27, 1967 from injuries | ||||||
| 21 | sustained in a landmine explosion while on patrol duty in South | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | Vietnam; and
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois General Assembly would | ||||||
| 3 | like to dedicate Illinois Route 16 from its junction with | ||||||
| 4 | Illinois Route 127 at School Street to its junction with | ||||||
| 5 | Illinois Route 185 in Hillsboro in honor of the sacrifice of | ||||||
| 6 | Lance Corporal Larry D. Claybrook and all Vietnam veterans; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General | ||||||
| 8 | Assembly pays honor and respect to the truly great individuals | ||||||
| 9 | who have served our country and, in doing so, have gone above | ||||||
| 10 | and beyond the call of duty to take part in truly heroic tasks; | ||||||
| 11 | therefore, be it | ||||||
| 12 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 13 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE | ||||||
| 14 | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate Illinois Route 16 | ||||||
| 15 | from its junction with Illinois Route 127 at School Street to | ||||||
| 16 | its junction with Illinois Route 185 in Hillsboro as the Marine | ||||||
| 17 | Lance Corporal Larry D. Claybrook Memorial Highway; and be it | ||||||
| 18 | further
| ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation | ||||||
| 20 | is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with | ||||||
| 21 | State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs | ||||||
| 22 | giving notice of the name of the Marine Lance Corporal Larry D. | ||||||

| 1 | Claybrook Memorial Highway; and be it further | ||||||
| 2 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | ||||||
| 3 | presented the family of Lance Corporal Larry D. Claybrook, the | ||||||
| 4 | Secretary of the Illinois Department of Transportation, the | ||||||
| 5 | Montgomery County Veterans Assistance Commission, and the City | ||||||
| 6 | of Hillsboro.
