2 | | WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that we honor and remember |
3 | | those public servants who contributed to the
betterment of the |
4 | | State of Illinois; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Sheriff Terry Marketti was born in Joliet in 1956 |
6 | | and passed away on December 14, 2012; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Sheriff Marketti's parents were Charles C. and |
8 | | Matilda "Tillie" Marketti; he grew up with
2 brothers, Charles |
9 | | and Rick; and |
10 | | WHEREAS, Sheriff Marketti dedicated his life to serving the |
11 | | communities of Grundy County,
winning his first elected |
12 | | position at the age of 18 on the South Wilmington Village |
13 | | Board, where he
served for 22 years; and |
14 | | WHEREAS, Sheriff Marketti served with the Grundy County |
15 | | Sheriff's Department for 35 years; he
rose from Chief Deputy to |
16 | | Sheriff by appointment in March of 2004 following the sudden |
17 | | death of
Sheriff Jim Olson; he would go on to win re-election |
18 | | as Sheriff 3 more times, running once unopposed; and |
19 | | WHEREAS, Sheriff Marketti also served on numerous boards |
20 | | for charities and other local
organizations throughout his |

1 | | life, including Big Brothers Big Sisters of Will and Grundy |
2 | | Counties, Grundy
Area P.A.D.S. (Public Action to Deliver |
3 | | Shelter), the Community Foundation of Grundy County, the
Grundy |
4 | | Economic Development Council, Breaking Away, the Gardner |
5 | | Village Board, the No Tolerance
Task Force, the Grundy County |
6 | | Emergency Telephone Systems Board, Operation St. Nick, We Care |
7 | | of
Grundy County, and many others; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Sheriff Marketti was also a member of the St. |
9 | | Lawrence Catholic Church in South
Wilmington, where those who |
10 | | knew him best described him as a generous soul; he was known to
|
11 | | donate to many local charities, non-profit organizations, and |
12 | | individuals; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Sheriff Marketti was dearly loved by his family |
14 | | and friends, was highly respected in law
enforcement, and had a |
15 | | generosity that was legendary throughout the community; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Sheriff Marketti was instrumental in establishing |
17 | | a 911 dispatch center near the
junction of Illinois Route 47 |
18 | | and Illinois Route 113 that has greatly benefited the |
19 | | surrounding
communities and saved countless lives; therefore, |
20 | | be it

21 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
22 | | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE |

1 | | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the section of |
2 | | Illinois Route 47
from Spring Road to DuPont Road in Grundy |
3 | | County as the "Sheriff Terry Marketti Memorial Highway"; and be |
4 | | it further |
5 | | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation |
6 | | is requested to erect at suitable locations,
consistent with |
7 | | State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs |
8 | | giving notice of the name
the "Sheriff Terry Marketti Memorial |
9 | | Highway"; and be it further
|
10 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be |
11 | | presented to the Secretary of the Department of
Transportation |
12 | | and the family of Sheriff Marketti.
