Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Requires automobiles to at all times exhibit at least 2 lighted head lamps when operated upon any highway in this State. Effective January 1, 2016.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing |
5 | | Section 12-201 as follows:
|
6 | | (625 ILCS 5/12-201) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 12-201)

7 | | Sec. 12-201. When lighted lamps are required.
|
8 | | (a) When operated upon any highway in this State, every |
9 | | motorcycle , motor-driven cycle, moped, and low-speed electric |
10 | | bicycle, shall at
all times exhibit at least one lighted lamp, |
11 | | showing a white light visible
for at least 500 feet in the
|
12 | | direction the motorcycle is proceeding. However, in lieu of |
13 | | such lighted
lamp, a motorcycle , motor-driven cycle, moped, or |
14 | | low-speed electric bicycle may be equipped with and use a means |
15 | | of modulating the
upper beam of the head lamp between high and |
16 | | a lower brightness. No such
head lamp shall be modulated, |
17 | | except to otherwise comply with this Code,
during times when |
18 | | lighted lamps are required for other motor vehicles.

19 | | (b) All other motor vehicles shall at all times
exhibit at |
20 | | least 2 lighted head lamps, with at least one on each side
of |
21 | | the front of the vehicle, which satisfy United States |
22 | | Department of
Transportation requirements, showing white |
23 | | lights, including that emitted
by high intensity discharge |
