Amends the Counties Code. Provides that on and after the effective date of this amendatory Act, each member of the county board shall be commissioned by the governor, and shall, before entering upon the duties of his or her office, take and subscribe the oath required by the Illinois Constitution, which shall be filed in the office of the county clerk.

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Counties Code is amended by adding Section |
| 5 | | 2-1008 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (55 ILCS 5/2-1008 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 2-1008. Oath of county board members. On and after the |
| 8 | | effective date of this amendatory Act of the 99th General |
| 9 | | Assembly, each member of the county board shall be commissioned |
| 10 | | by the governor, and shall, before entering upon the duties of |
| 11 | | his or her office, take and subscribe the following oath, which |
| 12 | | shall be filed in the office of the county clerk: |
| 13 | | I do solemnly swear (affirm), that I will support the |
| 14 | | constitution of the United States, and the constitution of |
| 15 | | the state of Illinois, and that I will faithfully discharge |
| 16 | | the duties of the office of county board member of |
| 17 | | .......... county, according to the best of my ability.
