2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Ralph H. Baahlmann, Jr. of Godfrey, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on November 17, 2014; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Ralph Baahlmann, Jr. was born in St. Louis, | ||||||
6 | Missouri on May 5, 1953 to Dr. Ralph, Sr. and Virginia "Ginny" | ||||||
7 | (nee Gangloff) Baahlmann; he graduated from Marquette Catholic | ||||||
8 | High School in Alton and attended Benedictine College in | ||||||
9 | Atchison, Kansas, where he was elected freshman class | ||||||
10 | president; during his sophomore year, he was a TV camera | ||||||
11 | operator and hosted the campus television show; he then | ||||||
12 | transferred to Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville in | ||||||
13 | 1973 to focus on mass communications for a career in broadcast | ||||||
14 | journalism; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, In 1975, Ralph Baahlmann, Jr. trained to become an | ||||||
16 | EMT-A; he was certified in Illinois and with the National | ||||||
17 | Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians; he worked at Gent | ||||||
18 | Funeral Home, Inc. in Alton and later for Marks Mortuary in | ||||||
19 | Wood River, where he worked the ambulance in addition to his | ||||||
20 | other duties at the funeral home; in 1976, during his service | ||||||
21 | at Gent Funeral Home, he was appointed as a volunteer deputy | ||||||
22 | coroner; in 1984, he was hired as Madison County's first paid | ||||||
23 | deputy; two years later he was hired full-time and was |

1 | appointed as chief deputy coroner; in addition to 2 longtime | ||||||
2 | stints as chief deputy, he was a field training officer, shift | ||||||
3 | supervisor, chief investigator, and evidence supervisor; he | ||||||
4 | later became a board-certified diplomat of the American Board | ||||||
5 | of Medicolegal Death Investigators; he was a 17-year | ||||||
6 | investigator for the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Ralph Baahlmann, Jr. was a 20-year member of the | ||||||
8 | Alton Exposition Commission and a deputy registrar for the | ||||||
9 | Madison County Clerk's Office; he served on the Alton Civil | ||||||
10 | Defense Board in the late 1970s and was a 25-year member of | ||||||
11 | Twin Rivers Search and Rescue, where he served as president for | ||||||
12 | 12 years; and | ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Ralph Baahlmann, Jr. was a regular speaker at | ||||||
14 | schools around the county for decades; he was a 4th Degree | ||||||
15 | member of the Alton Knights of Columbus Council 460; he was | ||||||
16 | also a member of the Alton-Wood River Sportsmen's Club, the | ||||||
17 | Wood River Moose Family Center Lodge #1349, the Madison County | ||||||
18 | Police Association, the Illinois Coroners & Medical Examiners | ||||||
19 | Association, and the Illinois
Police
Benevolent
and Protective
| ||||||
20 | Association, where he served as its first president; he was a | ||||||
21 | member of St. Ambrose Parish in Godfrey; and
| ||||||
22 | WHEREAS, Ralph Baahlmann, Jr. was preceded in death by his | ||||||
23 | parents; and

1 | WHEREAS, Ralph Baahlmann, Jr. is survived by his life | ||||||
2 | partner, Jerry Nailor; 2 sisters, Barbara M. Boyd (Dr. Tobin | ||||||
3 | Boyd) and Nancy E. Reese (Tom); 3 brothers, Mark G. Baahlmann, | ||||||
4 | Matthew L. Baahlmann (Teri), and John L. Baahlmann (Nancy); and | ||||||
5 | several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
| ||||||
6 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
7 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
8 | Ralph H. Baahlmann, Jr., and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
9 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
10 | further

11 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
12 | presented to the family of Ralph Baahlmann, Jr. as an | ||||||
13 | expression of our deepest sympathy.
