2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Robert W. Depke, who passed away on June |
4 | | 20, 2014; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Robert Depke was born on July 11, 1929 in |
6 | | Waukegan; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Robert Depke attended Gurnee Grade School and |
8 | | Warren Township High School, where he played all sports and was |
9 | | a member of the Warren Football 49ers; he was also selected as |
10 | | a member of the Warren Township Hall of Fame; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Robert Depke served his country as a member of the |
12 | | National Guard during the Korean War; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, After working in the family business, Robert Depke |
14 | | sold cars for Lindskog Mercury in Libertyville; in 1961, he won |
15 | | his first election to serve as Warren Township Supervisor; in |
16 | | 1975, he, along with the Town Board, purchased a farm on |
17 | | Washington Street in Gurnee and developed the Warren Township |
18 | | Center and Highway Department, which is now named after him; he |
19 | | also served as Lake County Board Commissioner and was elected |
20 | | Chairman of the County Board in 1968; and

1 | | WHEREAS, Robert Depke was instrumental in many |
2 | | accomplishments for Lake County; he led the Saving Great Lakes |
3 | | Group, which worked diligently with the State of Illinois and |
4 | | Governor Jim Edgar to convince the National Closure Board to |
5 | | keep the Great Lakes Naval Base open in Lake County; his name |
6 | | appears on the Robert W. Depke Juvenile Justice Center in |
7 | | Vernon Hills, which he had the foresight to have the county |
8 | | purchase to house the Juvenile Center and Courts in recent |
9 | | years; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Robert Depke was a member of the Gurnee Community |
11 | | Church; he was also a 58-year founding member of the Gurnee |
12 | | Lions Club, a charter member of the Gagewood Lions Club, and a |
13 | | member of the Exchange Club of Gurnee; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Robert Depke was a lifetime Green Bay Packers and |
15 | | Chicago White Sox fan; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Robert Depke was preceded in death by his parents, |
17 | | Justus and Beatrice (nee Hook) Depke; his stepmother, Edith; a |
18 | | sister, Eloise (Orvin) Herman; 2 brothers, William "Bill" and |
19 | | Justus (Jess) Depke; a daughter, Cindy Jo Deming; and a nephew, |
20 | | Wally Herman; and |
21 | | WHEREAS, Robert Depke is survived by his loving wife of 45 |
22 | | years, George Anne; 6 children, Robert W. (Jennie) Depke, II, |

8 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL |
9 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his |
10 | | family and friends, mourn the passing of Robert W. Depke; and |
11 | | be it further

12 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
13 | | presented to the family of Robert Depke as an expression of our |
14 | | sympathy.
