2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened at | ||||||
3 | the death of Roy C. Shuff of Shelbyville, who passed away on | ||||||
4 | May 31, 2013; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Roy Shuff was born in Dugout, on September 29, | ||||||
6 | 1940 to Edgar C. and Retta B. (nee Osborn) Shuff; he graduated | ||||||
7 | from Shelbyville High School in 1958 and attended Sparks | ||||||
8 | Business College in Shelbyville; he married Marilyn J. Franks | ||||||
9 | on January 14, 1962 at the First Christian Church in Vandalia; | ||||||
10 | and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Roy Shuff began working at Gene & Barney's in | ||||||
12 | Shelbyville; he later worked for El Bauer Chevrolet in Decatur | ||||||
13 | and then the Prudential Insurance Company in Springfield; he | ||||||
14 | returned to Shelbyville and purchased the Earl Riley Insurance | ||||||
15 | Agency in 1977, which later became Shelbyville Insurance | ||||||
16 | Services, Inc.; he retired in 2006 and worked for Grabb Motors | ||||||
17 | in Shelbyville; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Roy Shuff was a member of Jackson Masonic Lodge | ||||||
19 | #53 of Shelbyville, the Ansar Shrine of Springfield, the Shelby | ||||||
20 | Country Shrine Club, the Greater Shelbyville Area Chamber of | ||||||
21 | Commerce, the Shelby Memorial Hospital Board of Directors, | ||||||
22 | where he served as President, First United Methodist Church, |

1 | where he served on the Trustees and Finance Committee, and | ||||||
2 | Moose Lodge #1294 of Shelbyville; he also served on the Shelby | ||||||
3 | County Economic Development Committee and the Chautaugua | ||||||
4 | Committee in Shelbyville; he enjoyed helping with the 4th of | ||||||
5 | July celebrations in Shelbyville and collected money for the | ||||||
6 | fire works; he also helped collect money for the Shriners | ||||||
7 | through their coloring books; and

8 | WHEREAS, Roy Shuff was elected mayor of Shelbyville in 2007 | ||||||
9 | and served in that capacity until his passing; as mayor he | ||||||
10 | accomplished the retention of International Paper, the opening | ||||||
11 | of the Chapala Mexican Grill, and the Downtown Streetscape | ||||||
12 | Project; he enjoyed the Sister City program with Okuwa, Japan | ||||||
13 | and was part of the Shelbyville delegation that traveled to | ||||||
14 | Japan in 2008; and | ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Roy Shuff enjoyed playing and watching sports; he | ||||||
16 | played on the Shelbyville Merchants fast-pitch softball team | ||||||
17 | for many years; he was a die-hard fan of the Illini, the Los | ||||||
18 | Angeles Dodgers, the Chicago Bears, and USAC Open Wheel Racing; | ||||||
19 | he took great pride and supported all of the interests of his | ||||||
20 | children and grandchildren; and | ||||||
21 | WHEREAS, Roy Shuff was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
22 | his brothers, Raymond Fulte and Arthur Glen Shuff; and by his | ||||||
23 | sister, Letha Fulte; and

1 | WHEREAS, Roy Shuff is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his | ||||||
2 | sons, Troy and Terry Shuff; his daughters, Tracie (Patrick) | ||||||
3 | Helton and Tami Shuff; his grandchildren, Charlie Shuff, | ||||||
4 | Jennier Shuff (Mike Boring), Hilary Shuff, and Sydnie Helton; | ||||||
5 | and his dogs, Maggie, Molly, and Dhasi; therefore, be it
| ||||||
6 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
7 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
8 | Roy C. Shuff, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, | ||||||
9 | friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
| ||||||
10 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
11 | presented to the family of Roy Shuff as an expression of our | ||||||
12 | deepest sympathy.
