2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Robert W. "Major" Georgantas, Sr. of | ||||||
4 | Lockport, who passed away on January 21, 2014; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Robert Georgantas, Sr. was born in Joliet to | ||||||
6 | Anthony and Margaret (nee Palmer) Georgantas; he served in the | ||||||
7 | United States Air Force during World War II and settled in | ||||||
8 | Lockport in 1946; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Robert Georgantas, Sr. entered the Illinois State | ||||||
10 | Police Academy in March of 1949 and was assigned to State | ||||||
11 | Police District 5 in Joliet as a trooper; he was promoted to | ||||||
12 | Sergeant in 1952; he was assigned to District 4 in Blue Island | ||||||
13 | as a District Commander and promoted to Lieutenant in 1959; he | ||||||
14 | graduated from the FBI National Academy at Quantico in 1961 and | ||||||
15 | transferred back to District 5 as Acting Commander; he was | ||||||
16 | promoted to Captain in 1963 and was District Commander until | ||||||
17 | being promoted to Major in 1975; he was in command of Area 1, | ||||||
18 | Districts 2-3-4-5, and the District 15 Toll Road until he | ||||||
19 | retired in 1978; after retiring from the Illinois State Police, | ||||||
20 | he ran Bob's Shell in Bolingbrook, Joliet, and Lockport with | ||||||
21 | his son, retiring in 1995; and

22 | WHEREAS, Robert Georgantas, Sr. enjoyed hosting picnics |

1 | for the Will County Police Chiefs and Illinois State retirees | ||||||
2 | at his home on the Kankakee River in Wilmington; he was | ||||||
3 | past-President of the Will County Police Chiefs Association, | ||||||
4 | the Cook County Council of Police Chiefs, and Lockport Boy's | ||||||
5 | Baseball for 20 years and coached 18-year olds baseball; he was | ||||||
6 | a member of the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, the | ||||||
7 | International Association of Chiefs of Police, the FBI National | ||||||
8 | Academy Association, the Fraternal Order of Police 41 Lodge, | ||||||
9 | the Will County Sheriff's Merit Commission since 1987 and | ||||||
10 | Chairman of the Commission since 1989; he also was a member of | ||||||
11 | the Lockport Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5788, the Lockport | ||||||
12 | American Legion John Olson Post #18, a 50-year member of the | ||||||
13 | Lockport Moose Lodge #1557, and a life-member of the Joliet | ||||||
14 | Rivals Club; and

15 | WHEREAS, Robert Georgantas, Sr. was preceded in death by | ||||||
16 | his wife, Gloria (nee Fracaro); his parents; his brothers, | ||||||
17 | George and Donald; and his sister, Betty Bick; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Robert Georgantas, Sr. is survived by his | ||||||
19 | children, Cindy Georgantas and Robert W., Jr. (Paulette); his | ||||||
20 | grandchildren, Dr. Robert W., III, Laine (Josh) Vallero, Ginny | ||||||
21 | Georgantas, Dominic (Kate), Angela Welter, Dena Welter, Lisa | ||||||
22 | Welter, and Gina (Joe) Palluck; his 7 great-grandchildren; his | ||||||
23 | brothers, Clarence (Terry) and Richard (Judy); his sisters, | ||||||
24 | Connie A'Hearn and Lorraine (the late David) A'Hearn; and |

1 | numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
| ||||||
2 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
3 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
4 | Robert W. "Major" Georgantas, Sr., and extend our sincere | ||||||
5 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
6 | him; and be it further

7 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
8 | presented to the family of Robert Georgantas, Sr. as an | ||||||
9 | expression of our deepest sympathy.
