2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Wanda Patricia Simmons Raymond, who |
4 | | passed away on September 5, 2013; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Wanda Raymond was born on June 27, 1944 in |
6 | | Chicago; her parents were Albert and Arnetta Simmons; she |
7 | | married Louis Raymond, Sr. on June 15, 1974; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Wanda Raymond was a lifelong resident of Chicago; |
9 | | she graduated from Englewood High School in 1963; in high |
10 | | school, she participated in pageants and was a member of the |
11 | | swim team and the camera club; in 1973, she earned her |
12 | | bachelor's degree from Chicago State University; she |
13 | | subsequently earned her master's degree from Chicago State |
14 | | University in 1983; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Early in her career, Wanda Raymond worked as a |
16 | | recreational specialist with the Chicago Park District; in |
17 | | 1973, she became a physical educator with the Chicago Public |
18 | | School District; during her tenure, she taught first aid and |
19 | | CPR, served as a lifeguard and water safety instructor, and |
20 | | developed and implemented a camping program; she also coached |
21 | | swimming, track, basketball, volleyball, and golf at Thomas |
22 | | Kelly, Benito Juarez, and William Rainey Harper High Schools; |

1 | | Wanda retired from Chicago Public Schools in 2008, after 25 |
2 | | years of diligent and dedicated service; and
|
3 | | WHEREAS, Wanda Raymond was ordained a minister in the |
4 | | Church of God (Anderson, Indiana) and was a faithful and active |
5 | | member of Langley Avenue Church of God; she loved the Lord and |
6 | | served him with diligence in ministry for over 40 years; she |
7 | | served on numerous local and national boards within the Church |
8 | | of God denomination, including the Dean of Church of God |
9 | | Chicagoland Ministers and the Westmiddlesex Campground Board; |
10 | | she was also a Sunday School Superintendent, a Youth Minister |
11 | | at Vernon Park Church of God, a Minister at 44th Street Church |
12 | | of God, and a vacation bible school organizer at Langely Avenue |
13 | | Church of God; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Wanda Raymond enjoyed arts and crafts, physical |
15 | | activities, canoeing, swimming, camping, and volunteering; and |
16 | | WHEREAS, Wanda Raymond was preceded in death by her parents |
17 | | and her brother, Albert Simmons, Jr.; and |
18 | | WHEREAS, Wanda Raymond is survived by her husband, Louis |
19 | | Raymond; her son, Louis Raymond (Lauren); her grandson, Louis |
20 | | Charles Raymond III; her sister, Prezella (Robert) Blair; her |
21 | | brothers, Samuel (Rosa) Simmons, Donald (Thelma-Jean) Simmons, |
22 | | Garland (Cookie) Simmons, Stanford (Beverly) Simmons, and John |

1 | | Simmons; her sister-in-laws, Verna (Montgomery) Hayes, Barbara |
2 | | Young, and Tertha Durman; her brothers-in-law, Tony Raymond, |
3 | | Charles Raymond, and Clyde Raymond; and her many nieces, |
4 | | nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

5 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL |
6 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her |
7 | | family and friends, mourn the passing of Wanda Patricia Simmons |
8 | | Raymond; and be it further

9 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
10 | | presented to the family of Wanda Raymond as an expression of |
11 | | our sympathy.
