3 | | WHEREAS, Honoring our nation's and State's Vietnam |
4 | | veterans is an appropriate measure, given their selfless acts |
5 | | of courage in the face of adversity and uncertainty and their |
6 | | willingness to serve their country when called upon; their |
7 | | bravery and sacrifice should not be forgotten; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, The Vietnam War lasted from 1964 to 1975, making |
9 | | it the United States' second-longest war; the war required the |
10 | | 9.2 million Americans who served in the military throughout the |
11 | | war's duration to perform at sustained tempos of intensity and |
12 | | professionalism in all facets of military operations; and

13 | | WHEREAS, Nearly 2.7 million Americans served in Vietnam |
14 | | throughout the war, facing countless challenges in an |
15 | | unfamiliar environment where struggle was the norm; servicemen |
16 | | and women were called upon to serve thousands of miles away |
17 | | from home; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, 58,286 American military personnel paid the |
19 | | ultimate sacrifice by giving their lives for their country and |
20 | | their fellow soldiers, marines, sailors, and airmen; and

21 | | WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General |
