2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are pleased to recognize Illinois State |
4 | | Representative Sandra Pihos for her 12 years of service and |
5 | | hard work on behalf of the people of the State of Illinois; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Representative Pihos has had a long and |
7 | | distinguished career in public service; she first served her |
8 | | local community for many years as a member and president of the |
9 | | Glenbard High School District #87 School Board before her |
10 | | election to the Illinois House of Representatives in 2002; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Representative Pihos has been a resident of Glen |
12 | | Ellyn for 41 years, having taught both elementary and middle |
13 | | school; she also worked as a high school guidance counselor and |
14 | | held the position of vice president of Pihos Enterprises, a |
15 | | restaurant management firm, from 1993 to 2000; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Representative Pihos is especially proud of her |
17 | | work in the Illinois House of Representatives as a long-time |
18 | | member of the Elementary and Secondary Education Committee, |
19 | | where she served as the Minority Spokesperson; she also served |
20 | | as the Minority Spokesperson for the Appropriations Elementary |
21 | | and Secondary Education, Disability Services, Aging, and |
22 | | Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Committees; and
|

1 | | WHEREAS, Representative Pihos was a member of numerous |
2 | | Committees, including the Consumer Protection, Accountability & |
3 | | Administrative Review, Small Business Empowerment & |
4 | | Workforce Development, Appropriations-Human Services, Commerce |
5 | | and Business Development, Public Policy and Accountability, |
6 | | Tourism and Conventions, Mass Transit, Telecommunications, |
7 | | Housing, and Tollway Oversight Committees; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Representative Pihos served the General Assembly |
9 | | as a member of the Legislative Audit Commission, the Illinois |
10 | | Workforce Development Board, the Bi-Partisan Job Creation Task |
11 | | Force, the Charter Schools Task Force, the Joint Task Force on |
12 | | Community Colleges, as Chair of the Special Education Funding |
13 | | Task Force, Co-Chair of the Commission on the Elimination of |
14 | | Poverty, Co-Chair of the Internet Safety Task Force, and |
15 | | Co-Chair of the Advisory on Education Funding; and |
16 | | WHEREAS, Representative Pihos will be remembered for her |
17 | | outstanding record of support for education, social security |
18 | | protection, consumer protection, identity theft, affordable |
19 | | housing, health awareness, children's health insurance, and |
20 | | environmental issues; and

21 | | WHEREAS, Representative Pihos was awarded the Philip J. |
22 | | Rock Center and School Meritorious Service Award, the Illinois |

1 | | Coalition of Community Blood Centers Representative of the Year |
2 | | Award, and has been recognized as Woman of the Year by the |
3 | | United Hellenic Voters; and

4 | | WHEREAS, Representative Pihos has also received the |
5 | | Legislator of the Year Award by several organizations, |
6 | | including the Illinois Optometric Association, the Illinois |
7 | | School Counselor Association, the Illinois Association of |
8 | | School Administrators, the DuPage Housing Action Coalition, |
9 | | the Ray Graham Association, the Western DuPage Special |
10 | | Recreation Association, the Illinois Association of School |
11 | | Social Workers, and the Northeastern DuPage Special Recreation |
12 | | Association; and |
13 | | WHEREAS, Representative Pihos has received the Alzheimer's |
14 | | Advocacy Award, the American Conservative Union Foundation |
15 | | Award, the First Responder Emergency Preparedness and Disaster |
16 | | Response Readiness Award, the Illinois Coalition of Community |
17 | | Blood Centers Representative of the Year Award, the Housing |
18 | | Action Illinois Golden Trowel Award, the Guardian of Small |
19 | | Business Award, the Partners in Quality Award for her |
20 | | dedication to the advancement of quality in older adult |
21 | | services, the DuPage Center for Independent Living Spirit of |
22 | | ADA Award, the Illinois Farm Bureau Activator Award, the |
23 | | American Cancer Society Regional Advocacy Partner Award, and |
24 | | the Illinois Environmental Council Award; and

1 | | WHEREAS, Representative Pihos is the former co-chair of the |
2 | | Conference of Women Legislators and the current Illinois State |
3 | | Director of Women in Government; she is also the current |
4 | | co-chair of the NEW Leadership Program, which hones the |
5 | | leadership skills of young women, and the co-founder of the |
6 | | Illinois Alzheimer Legislators Alliance; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Representative Pihos serves on several boards, |
8 | | including Giant Steps Illinois, the Partnership for |
9 | | Educational Progress Foundation, Family Shelter Service, the |
10 | | DuPage Regional Leadership Council of the American Cancer |
11 | | Society, and the National Alliance on Mental Illness; |
12 | | therefore, be it

13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
14 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
15 | | we congratulate our friend and colleague, State Representative |
16 | | Sandra Pihos, on her retirement from the Illinois of House of |
17 | | Representatives and wish her the best in her future endeavors; |
18 | | and be it further
