2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are pleased to recognize Illinois State |
4 | | Representative Timothy L. Schmitz on his 14 years of service |
5 | | and hard work on behalf of the people of the State of Illinois; |
6 | | and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Representative Schmitz, a fourth generation |
8 | | resident of Kane County and lifelong resident of Batavia, was |
9 | | one of the youngest elected members in the Illinois General |
10 | | Assembly when he was first elected to the House of |
11 | | Representatives in 1999; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Prior to his election to the Illinois House of |
13 | | Representatives, Representative Schmitz served on the City of |
14 | | Batavia Plan Commission and as a City of Batavia Alderman; he |
15 | | was also a Policy Analyst for the Illinois House of |
16 | | Representatives; and |
17 | | WHEREAS, As an alumnus of the Bowhay Institute for |
18 | | Legislative Leadership Development and a Toll Fellow of the |
19 | | Council of State Governments, Representative Schmitz's peers |
20 | | recognized his leadership and elected him to serve as an |
21 | | Assistant Republican Leader, and later as Deputy Republican |
22 | | Leader; and |

1 | | WHEREAS, Representative Schmitz has served with |
2 | | distinction as Co-Chairman of the Joint Committee on |
3 | | Administrative Rules, where he has helped scrutinize |
4 | | controversial administrative rules dealing with a wide variety |
5 | | of challenges to public policymakers; he has also served as |
6 | | Republican Spokesperson for the Housing Committee, and as a |
7 | | member of the Human Services, Labor & Commerce, and |
8 | | Transportation: Regulation, Roads & Bridges Committees; and |
9 | | WHEREAS, Representative Schmitz has received numerous |
10 | | awards from organizations throughout his career as a lawmaker, |
11 | | including Legislator of the Year from the Metro West Council of |
12 | | Government, the Friends of Fairness Award from the Illinois |
13 | | Civil Justice League, Outstanding Legislator from the Illinois |
14 | | Bankers Association, the Recognition Award from the Illinois |
15 | | Fire Safety Alliance, the Legislative Award from the Associated |
16 | | Firefighters of Illinois, Champion of Free Enterprise from the |
17 | | Illinois Chamber of Commerce, Farthest Under 40 from Augustana |
18 | | College, and Friend of Agriculture from the Illinois |
19 | | Agricultural Association; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, Representative Schmitz is a recipient of the Red |
21 | | Cross Hometown Heroes award, and he received the Fireman of the |
22 | | Year award in 2005; and
|

1 | | WHEREAS, Representative Schmitz earned his degree in |
2 | | Public Administration and Political Science from Augustana |
3 | | College, where he met his wife, Julianne, and together they |
4 | | reside in Batavia with their children, Alex and Ryan; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, In addition to the commitments of being a husband, |
6 | | father, and elected official, Representative Schmitz has |
7 | | remained a firefighter and emergency medical technician with |
8 | | the Batavia Fire Department, a position he has held since 1984; |
9 | | therefore, be it
|
10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
11 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
12 | | we congratulate our friend and colleague, Representative |
13 | | Timothy L. Schmitz, on his retirement from the Illinois of |
14 | | House of Representatives and wish him the best in his future |
15 | | endeavors; and be it further

16 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
17 | | presented to Representative Schmitz as a symbol of our respect |
18 | | and esteem.
