2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Paul and Barbara | ||||||
4 | Segobiano on the occasion of their 58 years of dedicated | ||||||
5 | service to the Bloomington Knockers Youth Football Team; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, The Bloomington Knockers Youth Football Team is a | ||||||
7 | program that gives kids in the community a chance to learn the | ||||||
8 | skills and fundamentals of the game; for 3 months each fall, | ||||||
9 | Paul and Barbara Segobiano have dedicated themselves to working | ||||||
10 | with children ages 8-15; they have helped to provide an | ||||||
11 | opportunity for children of all economic and ethnic backgrounds | ||||||
12 | to participate in a highly respected program; the Bloomington | ||||||
13 | Knockers program has mentored and inspired over 6,000 children | ||||||
14 | through the program while teaching them the values of | ||||||
15 | tolerance, hard work, discipline, and respect; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Paul Segobiano was born and raised on | ||||||
17 | Bloomington's west side; he was driven to form the Knockers | ||||||
18 | after noticing that youth football players on the west side | ||||||
19 | were facing better equipped players from elsewhere; he | ||||||
20 | approached Father George Casper, a priest at St. Patrick's | ||||||
21 | Catholic Church, who helped raise funds for the program; Paul | ||||||
22 | Segobiano then allowed Father Casper to name the team; Father | ||||||
23 | Casper chose the name Knockers in honor of the Knock Shrine in |

1 | western Ireland, where a fellow priest's blind mother | ||||||
2 | reportedly had her sight restored; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, The vision for the Knockers was clear from the | ||||||
4 | start: to teach discipline and respect for others and to create | ||||||
5 | a family atmosphere; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, The heart and soul of the Knockers Program has | ||||||
7 | been Paul and Barbara Segobiano; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Paul and Barbara Segobiano have been married for | ||||||
9 | 59 years and have 5 children, 12 grandchildren, and 5 | ||||||
10 | great-grandchildren; they are both graduates of Trinity High | ||||||
11 | School and
have served on several school committees at St. | ||||||
12 | Patrick's, St. Mary's, and Central Catholic High
School; and | ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Barbara Segobiano is a registered nurse and a | ||||||
14 | survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor; she helped start the | ||||||
15 | Women's Health Center at St. Joseph Hospital and co-chaired the | ||||||
16 | first Twin Cities Festival; and | ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Paul Segobiano is a Director of the Great Plains | ||||||
18 | LIFE Foundation; he has also been elected to
the McLean County | ||||||
19 | Board for 42 years and has worked with many community | ||||||
20 | organizations; therefore, be it

1 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
2 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
3 | we congratulate Paul and Barbara Segobiano on the occasion of | ||||||
4 | their 58 years of dedicated service to the Bloomington Knockers | ||||||
5 | Youth Football Team and wish them great happiness and success | ||||||
6 | in the future; and be it further

7 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
8 | presented to Paul and Barbara Segobiano as a symbol of our | ||||||
9 | respect and esteem.
