2 | | WHEREAS, After 24 years of dedicated, progressively |
3 | | responsible service to Illinois State University, Arlene Hosea |
4 | | is retiring from her current position as Director of Campus |
5 | | Dining Services and Assistant to the Vice President of Student |
6 | | Affairs for Diversity Education; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Arlene Hosea was born and raised in the |
8 | | Bloomington area and was a graduate of Bloomington High School; |
9 | | she subsequently earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of |
10 | | Science in Home Economics from Illinois State University; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Arlene Hosea successfully managed Illinois State |
12 | | University dining centers, providing food to more than 7,000 |
13 | | student residents with a staff of more than 180 civil service |
14 | | staff members and 1,100 student employees and balancing an |
15 | | operational budget of $24 million; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Arlene Hosea openly and consistently shared her |
17 | | knowledge and expertise through her role as an adjunct faculty |
18 | | member, teaching Food Service Management and Quantity Foods |
19 | | from 2008 to 2010; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, Under Arlene Hosea's leadership, Campus Dining |
21 | | Services became an integral part of the educational community, |

1 | | using food to encourage the gathering of diverse populations |
2 | | and to celebrate local, regional, national, and global |
3 | | perspectives; she oversaw the development and implementation |
4 | | of a long-range master plan, renovated 2 dining halls, opened |
5 | | new retail franchise dining locations, and redesigned the meal |
6 | | plan program; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Arlene Hosea has been integral in the development |
8 | | and facilitation of campus-wide, ground-breaking programs in |
9 | | diversity, cultural competency, and social justice; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Beyond campus, Arlene Hosea served her community |
11 | | by participating in non-profit board governance for YWCA McLean |
12 | | County, The Baby Fold, and Special Olympics Illinois; she was |
13 | | also appointed to the Town of Normal's Human Relations |
14 | | Commission and Sustainability Subcommittee and the Advisory |
15 | | Council for the Multicultural Leadership Program; and |
16 | | WHEREAS, Arlene Hosea has been the recipient of numerous |
17 | | awards, including YWCA McLean County's Women of Distinction |
18 | | award, the Illinois State University Administrative |
19 | | Professionals Distinguished Service Award, the Neil R. Gamsky |
20 | | Quality of Student Life Award, and the Distinguished Alumni |
21 | | Award from the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences at |
22 | | Illinois State University; and

1 | | WHEREAS, Arlene Hosea is deeply rooted in her faith and |
2 | | lovingly tied with her large and growing family; she is also |
3 | | known for her great generosity and compassion; therefore, be it
|
4 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
5 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
6 | | we congratulate Arlene Hosea on the occasion of her retirement |
7 | | and wish her continued success and happiness in the future; and |
8 | | be it further

9 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
10 | | presented to Arlene Hosea as a symbol of our esteem and |
11 | | respect.
