2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Earline |
4 | | (nee Colbert) Rivers, who passed away on June 29, 2014; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Earline Rivers was born in Chicago on November 7, |
6 | | 1940 to John Harry and Gladys Colbert; she graduated from |
7 | | Englewood High School, and attended Northern Illinois |
8 | | University; she married Alvin Donald Rivers in 1965; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Earline Rivers worked as a pharmaceutical sales |
10 | | representative and later as a real estate agent; she also |
11 | | served as an office manager at her daughter's law firm for 8 |
12 | | years; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Earline Rivers was a member of Trinity United |
14 | | Church of Christ, where she served on the Food Share Ministry; |
15 | | she was an auxiliary board member of the Black Ensemble |
16 | | Theater, where she helped raised funds, coordinate events, and |
17 | | acted as a hostess; she attended several weekly "Silver |
18 | | Sneakers" classes at the YMCA, and worked tirelessly on her |
19 | | daughters's successful campaign for Cook County Circuit Court |
20 | | Judge; and |
21 | | WHEREAS, Earline Rivers had a passion for dance and enjoyed |

1 | | watching "Dancing with the Stars"; she also enjoyed |
2 | | storytelling, gardening, cooking, skiing, camping, bowling, |
3 | | tennis, and many other outdoor activities; she was an active |
4 | | member of the Sno-Gophers Ski Club, serving in several |
5 | | capacities, including President; in 1999, she walked a marathon |
6 | | in Anchorage, Alaska to raise money for Leukemia research; she |
7 | | loved to travel and visited Italy, France, Egypt, Monaco, |
8 | | Switzerland, and Canada; she traveled extensively throughout |
9 | | the United States; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Earline Rivers was preceded in death by her |
11 | | parents, and by her siblings, James Otha McLaughlin, George |
12 | | McLaughlin, and Gladys Eugenia Ward; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Earline Rivers is survived by her children, Byron |
14 | | (Alena) Rivers and the Honorable Kristal (Harry) Rivers; her |
15 | | grandchildren, Olivia Noelle and Evelyn Rose Rivers; and a host |
16 | | of family and loved ones, including her dearest friend, Sylvia |
17 | | Morris, and her dog, Chewbacca; therefore, be it

18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
19 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
20 | | we mourn the passing of Earline Rivers, and extend our sincere |
21 | | condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
22 | | her; and be it further
