2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Rey B.
Gonzalez on | ||||||
4 | the occasion of his retirement from the Commonwealth Edison | ||||||
5 | Company and his new
position as the President and Chief | ||||||
6 | Executive Officer of El Valor; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Rey Gonzalez served for 16 years with the | ||||||
8 | Commonwealth Edison Company as
the Public Affairs Director, | ||||||
9 | where he gained extensive experience in human relations,
| ||||||
10 | community, government, and media relations; while serving in | ||||||
11 | this role at ComEd, he
spearheaded public relations efforts and | ||||||
12 | corporate contributions programs and was a founding
member of | ||||||
13 | ComEd's Diversity Initiative; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Rey Gonzalez then joined the McDonald's | ||||||
15 | Corporation in 1998, where he
served as Vice-President of | ||||||
16 | Diversity; in that role, his primary responsibilities included | ||||||
17 | the
management and development of national external diversity | ||||||
18 | partnerships, including those
relating to philanthropy and | ||||||
19 | employment; and | ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Rey Gonzalez then joined the Exelon Corporation in | ||||||
21 | 2002 as the Vice-President
of Corporate Diversity, where he was | ||||||
22 | responsible for strengthening corporate diversity programs,

1 | maximizing supplier/vendor relationships, diversity recruiting | ||||||
2 | and outreach, and strengthening
partnerships with internal and | ||||||
3 | external organizations; and | ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Rey Gonzalez was appointed as Vice-President of | ||||||
5 | Legislative and
Community Affairs at ComEd in August 2006; in | ||||||
6 | that role, he was also involved with Exelon's
national external | ||||||
7 | diversity initiatives, including efforts to assist in building | ||||||
8 | and strengthening
relationships with the diversity suppliers | ||||||
9 | and community organizations; and | ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, On September 18, 2013, Rey Gonzalez announced his | ||||||
11 | retirement from ComEd after many years of valuable service and | ||||||
12 | important contributions; and | ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Rey Gonzalez has a long history of volunteer | ||||||
14 | community involvement as
the chair of both the United States | ||||||
15 | Hispanic Leadership Institute and El Valor as well as a board
| ||||||
16 | member of the Illinois Children's Healthcare Foundation and the | ||||||
17 | Puerto Rican Arts Alliance; and | ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Rey Gonzalez has received numerous honors and | ||||||
19 | awards for his community
involvement, including the Jefferson | ||||||
20 | Award for volunteerism from NBC Channel 5 in Chicago,
the | ||||||
21 | Caesar Chavez Community Service Award from the United States | ||||||
22 | Hispanic Leadership
Institute, the Leadership Award from the |

| |||||||
1 | Hispanic Association on Career Enhancement, and the
Pepsi-Cola | ||||||
2 | Hispanic Community Leadership Award; and | ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Governor's State University has instituted the | ||||||
4 | Rey B. Gonzalez Scholarship
Fund in his honor, and El Valor has | ||||||
5 | named a multi-million dollar facility the Rey B. Gonzalez
| ||||||
6 | Children and Family Center in recognition of his long-term | ||||||
7 | commitment to the organization; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, El Valor's mission is to support and challenge | ||||||
9 | urban families to achieve
excellence and participate fully in | ||||||
10 | community life through programs that exist to enrich and
| ||||||
11 | empower people with disabilities, the disenfranchised and the | ||||||
12 | underserved; it is one of the
country's largest Latino-serving | ||||||
13 | community-based organizations; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, After serving as the chair of El Valor's Board of | ||||||
15 | Directors for 30 years, the
Board of Directors has recently | ||||||
16 | named Rey Gonzalez as the President and Chief Executive
Officer | ||||||
17 | of El Valor; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Rey Gonzalez shares this honor with his wife, | ||||||
19 | Hilda, and their 4 children; therefore, be it
| ||||||
20 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
21 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |

1 | we congratulate Rey Gonzalez on his retirement from | ||||||
2 | Commonwealth Edison Company and wish him all the best in his | ||||||
