2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Jesse L. | ||||||
4 | Lewis, who passed away on April 13, 2014; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Jesse Lewis attended the University of Maryland | ||||||
6 | United States Army Satellite Campus; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Jesse Lewis retired from the United States Army in | ||||||
8 | June of 1998 after 23 years of service, having attained the | ||||||
9 | rank of sergeant first class; he participated in the Gulf War, | ||||||
10 | Operation Desert Shield, and Operation Desert Storm in Kuwait | ||||||
11 | and Saudi Arabia and was stationed in Germany, South Korea, | ||||||
12 | Hawaii, South Carolina, and Texas; following his service in the | ||||||
13 | Army, he relocated back to Waukegan in 2008 with his wife; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Jesse Lewis worked for the Black Chamber of | ||||||
15 | Commerce of Lake County as a Program Coordinator and as an OSHA | ||||||
16 | and National Safety County Work Zone Safety (flagger) | ||||||
17 | Authorized Trainer for 3 years; during that time, he trained | ||||||
18 | and certified over 200 students of the Pre-Apprenticeship | ||||||
19 | Construction Training Program and over 150 students within the | ||||||
20 | Lake County community in OSHA-30 and work zone safety; he also | ||||||
21 | trained and instructed 108 students for the Transportation | ||||||
22 | Construction Apprenticeship Readiness Training, Referral and |

1 | Intermodal Placement Program and served as a | ||||||
2 | trainer/instructor for the Urban Weatherization Institution | ||||||
3 | and the Freeport Housing Authority; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Jesse Lewis served as President and CEO of Veteran | ||||||
5 | Voices of Lake County, a non-profit organization to provide | ||||||
6 | resources and networks for veterans seeking support services; | ||||||
7 | he served as Vice President of Lewis Business Services and was | ||||||
8 | a board member of This Little Light of Mine Early Learning | ||||||
9 | Academy; he was also a member of the Armed Forces Benefits | ||||||
10 | Association, the Disabled Army Veterans Association, the Black | ||||||
11 | Chamber of Commerce of Lake County, the National Safety | ||||||
12 | Council, and the OSHA Training Institute and was a passionate | ||||||
13 | advocate for support services and benefits to veterans in Lake | ||||||
14 | County; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Jesse Lewis is survived by his wife, Lydia Lewis, | ||||||
16 | and his son, Dwayne Lewis; therefore, be it
| ||||||
17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
18 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
19 | we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of | ||||||
20 | Jesse L. Lewis; and be it further
| ||||||
21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
22 | presented to the family of Jesse Lewis as an expression of our |
