HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Jesse L.
4Lewis, who passed away on April 13, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jesse Lewis attended the University of Maryland
6United States Army Satellite Campus; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Jesse Lewis retired from the United States Army in
8June of 1998 after 23 years of service, having attained the
9rank of sergeant first class; he participated in the Gulf War,
10Operation Desert Shield, and Operation Desert Storm in Kuwait
11and Saudi Arabia and was stationed in Germany, South Korea,
12Hawaii, South Carolina, and Texas; following his service in the
13Army, he relocated back to Waukegan in 2008 with his wife; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Jesse Lewis worked for the Black Chamber of
15Commerce of Lake County as a Program Coordinator and as an OSHA
16and National Safety County Work Zone Safety (flagger)
17Authorized Trainer for 3 years; during that time, he trained
18and certified over 200 students of the Pre-Apprenticeship
19Construction Training Program and over 150 students within the
20Lake County community in OSHA-30 and work zone safety; he also
21trained and instructed 108 students for the Transportation
22Construction Apprenticeship Readiness Training, Referral and

1Intermodal Placement Program and served as a
2trainer/instructor for the Urban Weatherization Institution
3and the Freeport Housing Authority; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Jesse Lewis served as President and CEO of Veteran
5Voices of Lake County, a non-profit organization to provide
6resources and networks for veterans seeking support services;
7he served as Vice President of Lewis Business Services and was
8a board member of This Little Light of Mine Early Learning
9Academy; he was also a member of the Armed Forces Benefits
10Association, the Disabled Army Veterans Association, the Black
11Chamber of Commerce of Lake County, the National Safety
12Council, and the OSHA Training Institute and was a passionate
13advocate for support services and benefits to veterans in Lake
14County; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Jesse Lewis is survived by his wife, Lydia Lewis,
16and his son, Dwayne Lewis; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
18NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of
20Jesse L. Lewis; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Jesse Lewis as an expression of our
