2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are honored to congratulate Gordon M. Walker on | ||||||
4 | the occasion of his retirement as Chief Executive Officer of | ||||||
5 | Pekin Insurance in Pekin; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Gordon Walker was born on April 6, 1948; his | ||||||
7 | parents are Oscar E. and Margaret Davis Walker; he married | ||||||
8 | Carol J. Meints on December 1, 1973; they currently reside in | ||||||
9 | Groveland; he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from | ||||||
10 | Jacksonville College in Jacksonville in 1970; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Gordon Walker began his career with Pekin | ||||||
12 | Insurance in 1970 as an assistant bond manager in the Surety | ||||||
13 | and Fidelity Bond Department; in 1972, he transferred to | ||||||
14 | Indiana as a field trainee and later worked as a field manager | ||||||
15 | in Effingham and Cedar Rapids, Iowa; in July of 1984, he was | ||||||
16 | transferred to the Home Office to work as a property/casualty | ||||||
17 | marketing coordinator; in 1985, he was promoted to Staff | ||||||
18 | Management status and was named a sales manager; in January of | ||||||
19 | 1998, he was promoted to vice president of sales; in 2003, he | ||||||
20 | was elected senior vice president of all Pekin Insurance | ||||||
21 | companies and chief operating officer of the property/casualty | ||||||
22 | companies; in 2006, he was promoted to president and chief | ||||||
23 | operating officer of the property/casualty companies; he has |

1 | served as a member of the Board of Directors since 2005; in | ||||||
2 | March of 2008, he was elected Chief Executive Officer and | ||||||
3 | Chairman of the Board of Pekin Insurance; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Gordon Walker retired as Chief Executive Officer | ||||||
5 | of Pekin Insurance on February 11, 2014, but will remain as | ||||||
6 | Chairman of the Board of Directors until February of 2015; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Gordon Walker has been a strong supporter of the | ||||||
8 | insurance industry and has been actively involved with numerous | ||||||
9 | insurance organizations, including the Professional | ||||||
10 | Independent Insurance Agents of Illinois and the Illinois | ||||||
11 | Insurance Association; pursuing professionalism in his career, | ||||||
12 | he earned the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter | ||||||
13 | professional designation in 1995; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Gordon Walker has always held great interest in | ||||||
15 | community life; he is currently serving on the Board of | ||||||
16 | Directors of Herget Bank, N.A. and the Pekin Police Foundation; | ||||||
17 | his private generosities and strong devotion to the St. Jude | ||||||
18 | Midwest Affiliate were instrumental in the development of the | ||||||
19 | Pekin Insurance Birdies for St. Jude program; in February of | ||||||
20 | 2014, he began lending his energies, expertise, and talents as | ||||||
21 | a member of the St. Jude Board of Directors; therefore, be it

22 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

1 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
2 | we congratulate Gordon M. Walker on the occasion of his | ||||||
3 | retirement as Chief Executive Officer of Pekin Insurance and | ||||||
4 | thank him for his nearly 43 years of dedicated service and | ||||||
5 | leadership to the Pekin Insurance companies; and be it further
| ||||||
6 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
7 | presented to Gordon Walker as an expression of our esteem and | ||||||
8 | respect.
