| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Gabriel Barber, | ||||||
| 4 | Jr. and Lee Qulia Barber, The Barbers, on the occasion of their | ||||||
| 5 | 64th wedding anniversary in 2014; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Gabriel "June" Barber, Jr. was born in 1927 in | ||||||
| 7 | Clarksville, Missouri and Lee Quila Barber was born in 1929 in | ||||||
| 8 | Halls, Tennessee; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Gabriel Barber, Jr. joined the United States Army | ||||||
| 10 | after lying about his age; after his service, he joined the | ||||||
| 11 | International Harvester Farmall Plant and retired from there | ||||||
| 12 | after over 40 years of service; he was an avid bowler and | ||||||
| 13 | participated in the first men's league, the "Men's Progressive" | ||||||
| 14 | league; he enjoyed cooking BBQ ribs and joined the "Eagle" | ||||||
| 15 | motorcycle club with his Harley Davidson; he is a 33rd degree | ||||||
| 16 | mason, and a choir member, deacon, and ordained minister at | ||||||
| 17 | Olivet Baptist Church; he held numerous Rock Island county | ||||||
| 18 | public offices, including Precinct Committeeman, Alderman, | ||||||
| 19 | Rock Island County Board member, Oak Glen Home Chair, and Rock | ||||||
| 20 | Island County Board Chair; a park bears his name in honor of | ||||||
| 21 | his service to the community; and
| ||||||
| 22 | WHEREAS, Lee Quila Barber attended the Mississippi County | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | Training School, where she was Sargent-At-Arms and played on | ||||||
| 2 | its softball championship team; she also was a star on the | ||||||
| 3 | girls' basketball team and was voted "best girl athlete"; she | ||||||
| 4 | worked as a seamstress at "The Fashion" store in downtown Rock | ||||||
| 5 | Island before becoming an OBGYN nurse at Lutheran Hospital in | ||||||
| 6 | Moline; after nursing, she worked at the Rock Island County | ||||||
| 7 | Court House as a probate clerk and a court bailiff; she | ||||||
| 8 | participated in the first women's bowling league called the | ||||||
| 9 | "Quadettes", and her very first championship was broadcast on | ||||||
| 10 | tv; she is a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the | ||||||
| 11 | Golden Circle; and
| ||||||
| 12 | WHEREAS, The Barbers love to socialize, attend parties, | ||||||
| 13 | laugh, and dance; they enjoy traveling, especially to | ||||||
| 14 | Washington, D.C. and Disney Land in California; therefore, be | ||||||
| 15 | it

| 16 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 17 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 18 | we congratulate Gabriel Barber, Jr. and Lee Qulia Barber on | ||||||
| 19 | their 64th wedding anniversary, and wish them many more years | ||||||
| 20 | of wedded bliss; and be it further
| ||||||
| 21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 22 | presented to The Barbers as an expression of our esteem and | ||||||
| 23 | respect.
