HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Anastasia
4"Sheila" Murphy Cassidy, who passed away on November 17, 2013;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Anastasia Cassidy was born in 1923; she was one of
7the first women to serve in the United States Coast Guard
8during World War II; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Anastasia Cassidy was a member of Our Lady Queen
10of Martyrs Catholic Church; she was also a member of the
11Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #10141 and the American Legion
12Post #24 and spent several years as part of the Honor Guard,
13serving at military funerals; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Anastasia Cassidy enjoyed reading and was a
15talented needle worker and seamstress, winning a blue ribbon at
16the Manatee County Fair in Florida for a cross-stich design
17created for her eldest grandson; she loved dancing and would
18never pass up an opportunity to do so; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Anastasia Cassidy was preceded in death by her
20brother, Robert Murphy; and

1    WHEREAS, Anastasia Cassidy is survived by her children,
2Vince (Bernadette), Maureen, Robyn (Michael) Dowd, Theresa
3(Pat) Collins, Kevin (Jenny), Nora (Mike) Davis, and Illinois
4State Representative Kelly (Kelley Quinn) Cassidy; her 12
5grandchildren; Betty Martini, the last surviving member of her
6Coast Guard friends; and a circle of friends from VFW Post
7#10141; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10we mourn the passing of Anastasia "Sheila" Murphy Cassidy, and
11extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all
12who knew and loved her; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Anastasia Cassidy as an expression
15of our deepest sympathy.
