HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Maryville Academy 
4on the occasion of the 130th anniversary of its founding; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Maryville Academy was founded in 1883 by 
6Archbishop Patrick A. Feehan; originally known as Saint Mary's 
7Training School for Boys, the school began on an 880-acre 
8working farm located north of Des Plaines; it was a place for 
9boys to live, learn a trade, and get an education, preparing 
10themselves for a life beyond petty thievery, homelessness, 
11hunger, and loneliness; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, Maryville Academy is under the tutelage of Sr. 
13Catherine Ryan, O.S.F.; she was appointed Executive Director in 
14December 2004 and has overseen the continuation of successful 
15established programs and has been instrumental in the creation 
16of new programs, such as the Crisis Nursery, the Children's 
17Healthcare Center, the Jen School, and the Saint Martin de 
18Porres program; and
  
 
  
19    WHEREAS, Maryville Academy is accredited by both the 
20Council on Accreditation and the Joint Commission on 
21Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations; and

1    WHEREAS, Maryville Academy still meets the ever changing 
2needs of children and their families, always keeping its 
3mission in focus: "Rebuilding Lives...Rekindling 
4Spirits...Renewing Hope"; therefore, be it
  
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
6NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
7we congratulate Maryville Academy on its 130th anniversary and 
8wish it many more years of continued success; and be it further
  
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
10presented to Maryville Academy as an expression of our esteem 
11and respect.
