| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Michael Richard |
| 4 | | Calendo of Hoffman Estates on the occasion of his 75th |
| 5 | | birthday; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Michael Calendo grew up in Melrose Park surrounded |
| 7 | | by a Catholic, Italian family of 12; he married his high school |
| 8 | | sweetheart, Joyce Bullard, and they had 8 children together; |
| 9 | | and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Michael Calendo was a machinist worker and a union |
| 11 | | representative for the International Association of Machinists & |
| 12 | | Aerospace Workers District 8 in Forest Park, eventually |
| 13 | | becoming Union President; he was a popular leader and continued |
| 14 | | to serve people in organized labor for over 30 years until his |
| 15 | | retirement; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Michael Calendo regularly serves as the |
| 17 | | neighborhood handyman and can often be found clearing the local |
| 18 | | driveways of snow during storms or helping out with projects |
| 19 | | such as landscaping, painting, plumbing, and electrical |
| 20 | | repairs for anyone who needs assistance, many times purchasing |
| 21 | | the necessary materials and parts with his own money; he enjoys |
| 22 | | cooking up Italian meals and delivering them to family members |

| 1 | | and neighbors and will buy bags of groceries for those in need; |
| 2 | | he has opened his home to friends, relatives, and anyone who |
| 3 | | needed some extra help; and
|
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Michael Calendo has a creative and whimsical side; |
| 5 | | he is a builder, dancer, and yodeler and has created different |
| 6 | | nicknames for all 15 of his grandchildren; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Michael Calendo has not let getting older slow him |
| 8 | | down; he regularly walks 3 miles a day, handing out bones to |
| 9 | | the dogs he meets along the way; he then returns home to work |
| 10 | | on his house or neighborhood projects; he takes great pride in |
| 11 | | his lawn and has won awards from the Village of Hoffman Estates |
| 12 | | for the beauty of his home and yard; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, A celebration for Michael Calendo will take place |
| 14 | | at Moretti's Ristorante & Pizzeria in Lake in the Hills on |
| 15 | | September 14, 2013; therefore, be it
|
| 16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 17 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 18 | | we congratulate Michael Richard Calendo on the occasion of his |
| 19 | | 75th birthday and wish him many more; and be it further
