|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are pleased to celebrate the 100th anniversary |
4 | | of the 1913 Illinois law granting women the right to vote for |
5 | | President of the United States and municipal officers; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, The law went into effect when it was signed by |
7 | | Illinois Governor Edward F. Dunne on June 26, 1913; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, The passage of the law made the State of Illinois |
9 | | the first state east of the Mississippi River to allow women to |
10 | | vote in presidential elections; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Over 200,000 women in the State voted in the 1914 |
12 | | election, helping to pave the way for the passage of the 19th |
13 | | Amendment to the United States Constitution in 1920, which gave |
14 | | full suffrage to all women in the nation; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, The members of this body are proud of Illinois' |
16 | | pioneering role in granting the women of the nation their |
17 | | hard-won rights; therefore, be it

18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
