| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Pastor |
| 4 | | Jeffery Ivory Sr. of Peoria, who passed away on May 8, 2013; |
| 5 | | and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Jeffery Ivory Sr. was born on November 20, 1933, |
| 7 | | in Gainesville, Alabama, and was raised in York, Alabama; his |
| 8 | | parents were John L. and Sephronia Ivory; he married Gladys |
| 9 | | Sturdivant on August 20, 1953, in Meridian, Mississippi; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Jeffery Ivory Sr. retired from Allied and Hyster's |
| 11 | | Construction Companies in 1973 before being called to the |
| 12 | | pastorship; he served as Pastor of Grace Baptist Church for 40 |
| 13 | | years and directed the church's activities; during his |
| 14 | | leadership, the church grew to over 800 members; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Jeffery Ivory Sr. was a past moderator of the |
| 16 | | Central District Association, past president of the Baptist |
| 17 | | Ministerial Alliance and the Central District Congress of |
| 18 | | Christian Education, and a member of the Peoria Christian |
| 19 | | Leadership Council; he was also a past board member of the |
| 20 | | Minority Affairs Council for the Illinois Department of |
| 21 | | Transportation for District 4, dedicated to improving minority |
| 22 | | participation for black contractors, and a past board member of |
|

| 1 | | the Central Illinois Black Expo; and
|
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Jeffery Ivory Sr. enjoyed watching the Chicago |
| 3 | | Cubs, fishing, and cooking; he also enjoyed spending time with |
| 4 | | his wife, children, grandchildren, and church family; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jeffery Ivory Sr. is preceded in death by his |
| 6 | | parents; his son, Jeffery Ivory, Jr.; his daughter, Erica Dawn |
| 7 | | Ivory; and his 3 brothers and 2 sisters; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Jeffery Ivory Sr. is survived by his beloved wife |
| 9 | | of almost 60 years, Gladys Ivory; his sons, Ricky (Carolyn) |
| 10 | | Ivory, Larry (Janis) Ivory, Rodney (Jennifer) Ivory, and Darren |
| 11 | | Ivory; his daughters, Lorraine (William) Sephus, Teresa |
| 12 | | (Lonnie) Hayes, Beverly (Eric) Cameron, and Ariel Ivory; his |
| 13 | | sister, Marjorite Shelton; his 18 grandchildren; his 22 |
| 14 | | great-grandchildren; his 3 great-great-grandchildren; his |
| 15 | | godson, Jamar Thomas; his many nieces, nephews, other |
| 16 | | relatives, and friends; and his Grace Baptist Church family; |
| 17 | | therefore, be it

| 18 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 19 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 20 | | we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of |
| 21 | | Pastor Jeffery Ivory Sr.; and be it further
