HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Reverend Marvin E. Wiley on the occasion of his 36th pastoral anniversary; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Marvin Wiley is a native of San Bernardino, California and was raised in Pine Bluff, Arkansas; he graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1978 and attended Dallas Baptist College in Dallas, Texas; he subsequently graduated from the University of Arkansas in Pine Bluff, majoring in sociology; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Marvin Wiley was ordained in May of 1981 at the Eighth Avenue Baptist Church in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, where he was baptized at the age of 7 and licensed at the age of 17; he went on to serve as pastor of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Pine Bluff, Arkansas from 1988 to 1991 and pastor of the Pilgrim Baptist Church in Pine Bluff, Arkansas from 1981 to 1988; and

WHEREAS, In March of 1991, Rev. Marvin Wiley became the second pastor in 40 years at Rock of Ages Baptist Church in Maywood; under his leadership, the church has experienced spiritual, numerical, and financial growth, including the construction of a Worship Service Facility and a Spiritual Growth and Development Center; in March of 2012, he celebrated his 21st anniversary as the pastor of the Rock of Ages Baptist Church and his 35 years in the ministry; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Marvin Wiley's ability to teach and preach has carried him across the country for leadership, stewardship, and evangelistic services; he served on the executive committee of the corporate board of directors of the Sunday School Publishing Board of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc.; he has also served on numerous civic and community boards during the course of his ministry; and

WHEREAS, In recognition of his contributions to the communities that he serves, Rev. Marvin Wiley was recognized in March of 2006 by the Village of Maywood with an honorary street sign; he was also recognized in the 2006 inaugural edition of Who's Who in Black Chicago and was inducted into the Martin Luther King Jr. Board of Preachers of Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia on April 3, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Marvin Wiley is the proud father of Madilyn Ellise' and Jarrett Ryan and the grandfather, Jarrett Ryan Jr.; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Marvin Wiley serves as a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Reverend Marvin E. Wiley on the occasion of his 36th pastoral anniversary and wish him continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Rev. Marvin Wiley as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
