HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Freda Aron; and

WHEREAS, Freda Aron was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1915; and

WHEREAS, At the age of 21, Freda Aron moved to Chicago to attend nursing school; while there, she met and married her loving husband, Richard, and began a family; and

WHEREAS, After many years of nursing in hospitals and healthcare centers, Freda Aron moved to Utah as a VISTA volunteer at the age of 75, while there, she practiced nursing on a Navajo reservation; she later moved to Sitka, Alaska to volunteer in running a shelter for abused women and children; while in Sitka, she gave strength and dignity to battered women and children and offered clothing, counsel, medical advice, and care to the communities of both places that she loved so well; she also volunteered as a forest ranger/goodwill ambassador and delighted visitors there with stories of the city and her past; and

WHEREAS, Freda Aron had a regular Thursday morning radio program on KCAW called 'Frankie and Freda', highlighting the music of Frank Sinatra; and

WHEREAS, Freda Aron was an avid writer and following politics intently; over the years, she wrote regularly for the Bugle in Niles, the Lerner Papers in Skokie, the Chicago Tribune, the Raven Newspaper in Sitka, Alaska, and various Utah papers; she was also the editor of SHE, the first local newspaper written exclusively for women, in the early 1970s; from the 1950s until recently, she wrote articles about her very liberal political views, which she was happy to share with everyone; and

WHEREAS, Freda Aron was the beloved wife of the late Dr. Richard F. Aron; the dear mother of Stan, Len, Cara, and Linda; the mother-in-law of Brenda and Liz; the grandmother of Cade (Bari), Victoria, Marisa, and Shauna; the devoted daughter of Sam and Dora Umansky; and the loving sister of Esther and Millicent; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Freda Aron; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Freda Aron as an expression of our sympathy.
